Use tablet as second monitor for Windows PC by David Papkin

If you dont have the budget to buy a second monitor for your WFH Zoom/Teams/WebEx conferences, you can use your old tablet.

My favorite is spacedesk. You can use it PC –> IPAD , PC–> Android.

Using SpaceDesk is one of the easiest ways to turn your Android tablet (such as your Samsung A9+ or future S10 FE) into a second monitor for your Windows laptop.

Android tablet

Step 1: Install SpaceDesk on Windows

On your Windows laptop:

  1. Go to:

  2. Download spacedesk DRIVER for Windows Primary PC

  3. Install it

  4. Reboot if prompted

Step 2: Install SpaceDesk on Android Tablet

On your Samsung tablet:

  1. Open Google Play Store

  2. Install:

Step 3: Connect Both Devices

Option A – Same Wi-Fi Network (Easiest)

  • Connect laptop and tablet to the same Wi-Fi network.

  • Open SpaceDesk Viewer on the tablet.

  • Your Windows laptop should appear automatically.

  • Tap the laptop name.

  • The tablet becomes a second monitor.

Option B – Wired USB (Lower Latency)

SpaceDesk now supports USB tethering.

On the tablet:

  1. Connect USB-C cable between laptop and tablet.

  2. Enable USB Tethering:

    • Settings → Connections → Mobile Hotspot and Tethering

    • Turn on USB Tethering

On Windows:

  1. Wait for Windows to detect a new network.

  2. Open SpaceDesk Viewer.

  3. Connect to the Windows host.

This usually gives:

  • Lower lag

  • Better reliability in classrooms

  • Less Wi-Fi congestion

Step 4: Configure Windows Display

On the laptop:

Windows + P

Choose:

  • Extend (recommended)

  • Duplicate

  • Second screen only

Or:

Settings → System → Display

You can:

  • Rearrange monitors

  • Set the tablet above/below the laptop

  • Change resolution

  • Make the tablet the primary display

Best setup:

Laptop USB-C → Samsung tablet USB-C

with USB Tethering enabled.

Advantages:

  • More stable than classroom Wi-Fi

  • Less latency when moving PowerPoint slides

  • Works even if the training venue Wi-Fi is poor

IPAD tablet

Here is a step-by-step guide on using an iPad as a second monitor with Windows using the recommended Spacedesk app:

  1. Download and install the Spacedesk driver software on your Windows PC from Windows store
  2. Download and install the Spacedesk app on your iPad from the App Store.
  3. Make sure your Windows PC and iPad are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  4. Open the Spacedesk app on your iPad. It will automatically detect your Windows PC.
  5. Open the Spacedesk driver console on your Windows PC. You should see your iPad listed as an available display.
  6. Click on your iPad in the console to connect it as a wireless second monitor.
  7. Right-click on your Windows desktop and go to Display Settings.
  8. In the Display Settings, set the Multiple Displays drop-down to “Extend these displays”.
  9. Drag and position the monitor icons to match your physical setup of the main monitor and iPad.
  10. Adjust the resolution and scaling for the iPad display as needed under Advanced Display
